Bike to Work Day is a fantastic opportunity to promote cycling, reduce carbon emissions, and foster a healthier lifestyle. But what if you work remotely? Don’t worry—Memphis has plenty of ways for you to get involved without needing to commute to a physical office. Here’s how you can participate:

1. Take a Morning Ride

Start your day with a bike ride around your neighborhood or a nearby park. Not only will it simulate a commute, but it’s also a great way to clear your mind and get energized for the workday. Consider hitting the Greenline or Shelby Farms for a scenic route.

2. Join a Group Ride

Many Memphis cycling clubs, including the Memphis Hightailers, organize group rides for Bike to Work Day. Check out their event schedule and join a ride that fits your skill level and availability. It’s a great way to connect with other cyclists and feel the sense of community, even if you’re not heading to a traditional office.

3. Host a Virtual Ride Meetup

Organize a virtual meetup with fellow remote workers. Agree on a time and route, and everyone can share their rides on apps like Strava or Ride with GPS. Share your experience, encourage one another, and celebrate the day together.

4. Bike to a Coffee Shop or Co-Working Space

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Consider biking to a local coffee shop or co-working space to set up your remote office for the day. You’ll still get that "commute" experience while supporting local businesses.

5. Share Your Ride on Social Media

Snap a photo of your ride and share it on social media using #BikeToWorkMemphis. Encourage other remote workers to join in and share their rides. Highlight the benefits of biking, from exercise to reducing traffic congestion.

6. Support a Local Bike Shop

Take some time to visit a Memphis bike shop to tune up your ride or purchase new gear. Supporting local businesses is a great way to celebrate the spirit of Bike to Work Day while preparing for future rides.

7. Pledge to Ride Regularly

Bike to Work Day is a great way to kickstart a new habit. Pledge to continue biking a few days a week, whether it’s for errands, exercise, or just to clear your head during a break.

8. Important Notes

  • Riding on a trainer or virtually does not count as participating in Bike to Work Day. Get outside and enjoy the ride!
  • If it’s raining where you are, consider using a backup date to still get out and ride.

Even if you work remotely, you can still participate in Bike to Work Day and enjoy the many benefits of cycling. Whether you’re riding solo or joining a group, every mile you pedal helps to promote a more bike-friendly Memphis.
