From Memphis to the Gulf: She to Sea Female Cycling Team Embarks on 6th Annual 500-Mile Journey

Tulio J Bertorini | Published on 2/26/2026

MEMPHIS, TN – For the sixth consecutive year, the She to Sea cycling team is preparing to trade the Memphis skyline for the sugar-white sands of Seagrove Beach, Florida. This elite group of women will depart on March 21, 2026, embarking on a 500-mile, five-day journey to raise critical funds and awareness for the West Cancer Foundation.

A Partnership Built on the Pavement

Since its inception in 2022, the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club has been a steadfast supporter of the mission. The bond between the two organizations runs deep; many of the 27 women on the 2026 She to Sea roster are long-standing members of the Hightailers. The club even adjusted its own "Spring Classic" event schedule specifically to ensure members could attend the She to Sea rollout and support the team’s departure.

Join the Rollout: Ride Details

Community members are invited to join the team for the first leg of their journey. The "rollout" offers a rare opportunity to ride alongside these athletes as they begin their trek to the Gulf.

  • Date: Saturday, March 21, 2026.
  • Location: West Cancer Center (7945 Wolf River Blvd, Germantown).
  • Time: 8:00 AM sharp. Supporters and participating riders are urged to arrive early, as the group will depart exactly on time.
  • The Route: The community ride covers approximately 20+ miles.
  • Escort & Safety: A police escort will lead the group for the initial 20-mile leg to ensure a safe departure from the city. However, there is no escort for the return trip back to the West Cancer Center.
  • Pace Requirements: To ensure safety and maintain the schedule, participants must be capable of maintaining an A or B pace.
  • No Tech Support: This is a self-supported community ride; there will be no technical support or "SAG" vehicles provided for the rollout participants.

Pedaling for a Purpose

The She to Sea story began with just 10 women looking for a way to give back. Today, it has grown into a "sisterhood" that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide free cancer services—such as screenings, transportation to appointments, and lymphedema garments—to those in the Mid-South.

For those who cannot make the ride, the mission continues through donations to the 27 team members. Every dollar contributed directly supports the West Cancer Foundation’s goal of breaking down barriers to cancer care.
