Music lover?

Memphis history buff?

Blues fan?

Join the Hightailers for a fun, free ride, as we learn some cool facts and see some noteworthy sites related to Memphis' role in the blues.

John Gemmill of the Memphis Blues Society will lead the 2nd annual Blues Tour from the parking lot of the SuperLo on Spottswood (replacing the usual Saturday SuperLo ride).

It will head downtown toward Elvis's parent's apartment in the former Lauderdale Court (now Uptown) via Sun Studios, and then over to the defunct Poplar Tunes record store. We'll go to Beale Street, the WC Handy Museum, stop for coffee and biscuits at a soul food restaurant, and maybe catch some music before we take off for South Main and the headquarters of the Blues
Foundation. (Those needing granola, gluten free toast or unpasteurized milk for breakfast can make a pit stop at the Farmers Market.)

Our return trip will take us by the houses of Aretha Franklin and Memphis Slim as well as the Stax Museum. We'll make our way back to SuperLo via the bike lanes on McLemore and Southern.

Go ahead and download a copy of the commemorative and educational tour pamphlet.

The route will be around 25 miles, and will travel at a moderate pace. No one will be left behind (unless too enraptured by music history).
